Twitter Video Tutorial: Emerging Social Network

Posted by: Geoff Peterson

I wrote about Twitter in StaffBytes back in October of last year that I was “still trying to ‘get’ it”. I was a new user to Twitter at the time and was trying to get my arms around how Twitter could benefit recruiters and sourcers, not to mention what to do with it. After a few months of being on Twitter, I have turned into a Twitterholic. I love it!

I put together a short video recently on using Twitter and posted out on RecruitingBlogs. I wanted to extend this video to StaffBytes as well after receiving very positive feedback. Take time to check it out. There is lots of good Twitter coverage here. I think you will also “get” it after watching. In addition, check out Koka Sexton’s blog. I found a fantastic article there which runs through the in’s and out’s of Twitter and shows some very advanced techniques not covered in my video.

Video Tutorial: Resume Workshop

Posted by: Geoff Peterson

For job seekers, having a well written and engaging resume is very important. A resume can open or close the door to new opportunities. Common mistakes found in resumes include spelling and grammatical errors, length, inadequate information, missing information, incorrect and overlapping dates and disorganized layouts.

A job seeker got in touch with me recently and asked for my advice on his resume. With his permission, I put together a short video to demonstrate the changes I would make to his resume to get more attention and more leads on job and career boards as well as amongst other recruiting professionals in the industry. If you want “full screen” for this video, click the square button on the right hand side of the video toolbar.

Below are two screenshots of the resume, before and after my suggested changes. What are your thoughts?

Firefox Video Tutorial: Get ALL The Resumes

Posted by: Geoff Peterson

While Internet Explorer is the most widely used web browser on the planet and has the lions share of the market at this point at some 60-70%, Firefox (at close to 15% by some accounts) is in my opinion the best browser. For Recruiters and especially Internet Sourcers and Researchers, Firefox can be used to grab as many resumes as you can take. Think millions if you are ambitious enough!

Firefox has what they call “add-ons” that you can attach to the browser to make searching, bookmarking and other tasks very easy. One add-on in particular I want to show you is called DownThemAll. Let’s say for instance you were doing some boolean searching for resumes using Firefox. Let’s also say that your search string pulls up thousands of resumes. DownThemAll makes it possible to download all items from your search with a few quick clicks. Here is a video example:

The following 21 minute video will walk you through the search features of LinkedIn exclusively and how to use them effectively. There is a an option in the video toolbar to go full screen so you can see it better. Hit the square button next to the volume control if you want this. Sit back, take some notes and enjoy. Please let me know your feedback or questions.

P.S. If you want to extend your network, send me an invitation. I am an open networker.
